More than 1 million people have been rioting in the streets of Brazil over the last week about the cost of staging the World Cup. It has been reported that to make sure that Brazil have enough funding to be able to host the world cup, prices on things such as bus tickets have been increased. They have been angered by the contrast between shiny new stadiums and shambolic state of public services including health, education and transport. If their health systems etc are not up to standard, I believe that the people of Brazil are doing the right thing to protest. Why should the government spend all their money of stadiums etc when they could be fixing more important things?
